Marsha was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her maternal great-grandparents helped establish the Hebrew Theological College in Skokie, Illinois and her paternal great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents helped build Congregation Ahavas Israel in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Marsha earned a BA in Philosophy from Calvin College and an MA in Jewish Studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, including studies at the Hebrew University.  In 1994, Marsha registered her first ART AS RESPONSA business license in Sausalito, California.

Marsha's art studies include life drawing at the New York Art Student's League, painting at the Bezalel Academy of Arts, illustration at the Parsons School of Design, and ceramics at Georgies in Portland, Oregon.

Marsha directed Hillel at the University of California, Davis and for Sacramento State University. She attended the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies and served as rabbi for SW Temple Beth Torah in Gardena, which relocated to Torrance as Congregation Beth Torah [now Congregation Tikvat Jacob Beth Torah].

Marsha's first text-based art classes were held at Congregation Rodeph Shalom in New York. She also taught at West End Synagogue and served as art instructor for Creative Arts Summer Camp at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Manhattan.

Marsha worked as artist-in-residence for Congregation Adat Shalom in Los Angeles. She also facilitated programs for the Skirball Cultural Center and established The Bible Lab for the Sinai Akiba Academy.
